It's not often that I write about Starbucks because, frankly, they don't have a lot of freebies going on. But they made some big changes to the program today and they're worth writing about. Surprisingly, most of them are good.
On the good side, they hit two of my pet peeves, postcards and the 15 purchases requirement. The postcards are being replaced by stored drinks on your card, so I don't have to worry about those things littering my bedroom. And 15 purchases for a freebie is being reduced to 12. I have a particular reason to disdain the change to electronic rewards (The people who lived in our house before we moved in never bothered to change their address.), but I can hardly complain about my unique circumstance.
One other perk: You can now redeem for food instead of drinks. Of course, most food costs less than a drink, but it's their if you want it.
On the downside, they took away a biggie: No more free syrup or soy milk for cardholders. Ouch, goodbye, tall, non-fat, no whip peppermint mocha.
Most of the changes are good, but I'll miss that shot of peppermint in the morning.
